MHS was founded in 2003 when Erik Hord and his wife moved to Charlottesville from the West Coast in search of a great place to raise a family. After a frustrating experience trying to have many of the low-voltage systems that he now sells installed in his new home, he realized that there was an opportunity to do it better. He set out to create a company that did business the right way. To do that, he joined forces with his partners in the business with the goal of creating the best provider of home technology in Central Virginia.
Modern Home Systems Inc. is based in Charlottesville VA. As a Charlottesville owned and operated company we're part of your community. Our team lives, works and plays here and we're thrilled to live in the nation's #1 rated community.
Our Team:
Erik Hord: C.O.O.
Erik brings 18 years of business and technology experience in everything from consumer products, to G.P.S. precision landing systems, Internet infrastructure and web site management for Fortune 500 companies like Nike and Universal Studios. He has been a part of 3 start-ups, and a founding member of 2, so he understands how critical customer satisfaction is to a successful enterprise. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Miami University and a Master of Business Administration degree from The American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) in Glendale Arizona. He has lived and worked in 7 states and two foreign countries which allows him to appreciate the beauty of Central Virginia all the more.Erik is a CEDIA Certified Professional Installer Level 1 and a CEDIA Certified Professional Designer.
In his free time Erik enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys tennis, fishing, photography, flying and cars.
Tim Meadows: Operations Manager
Tim joined Modern Home Systems in late 2006. He brings 20+ years of operations experience, most recently as an Operations Manager of a large plant for DuPont in the Waynesboro area. Tim brings a wealth of process, project management and operations experience to our team ensuring that projects are completed with quality, to spec and on time.
Tim is a lifelong resident of Central Virginia and lives with his family in Stuarts Draft. In his spare time he's a semi-professional tournament Bass fisherman and frustrated golfer.
Debbie Gwinn: Office Manager/Senior Accountant
A 20 year resident of Charlottesville, Debbie brings 30+ years of experience to MHS in business management, finance and accounting. During her career she has worked in a number of different industries including: software, non-profit, and construction before joining our team.
In her free time she enjoys golf, cross stitch, reading and spending time with her dog.
